Attention all Star Wars fans! 2023’s Star Wars celebration held in London has promised exciting new developments in the Star Wars universe in the next couple of years. These announcements have fans excited and upset but we are here to tell you about some of the big announcements Disney made last week and what Star Wars fans can expect as the saga continues.

One major reveal Disney gave was that a popular character from the newest trilogy Rey as played by Daisy Ridley will be returning to the big screen in a movie set 15 years after the Rise of Skywalker. The production will be directed by Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy and will be following the concept of Rey re-constructing the Jedi Order and teaching new Jedi padawans the ways of the force. The return of Ridley’s character is getting mixed reactions online as Rey’s character as well as the sequel trilogy were already sore subjects among fans. Ridley received a lot of negative comments and harassment about her performance after the sequel movies as many fans were unhappy about Rey’s force healing abilities and of course her controversial “I’m Rey… Rey Skywalker” quote at the end of the 9th movie. While many are unhappy to see the role reprised as well as the Skywalker storyline continuing, the fact remains that Rey is a strong role model for young girls, and we are on the edge of our seats waiting to see how this new concept of a Jedi Academy being led by her will play out.

Additionally, fans of the animated TV series The Clone Wars and Star Wars Rebels are excited to hear that some of their favorite characters from the shows will be featured in the new series: Ahsoka. While details about the plot are unknown at this time, Disney has just released a teaser trailer for the series which features fan favorites a once Jedi Ahsoka Tano, Mandalorian Sabine Wren, Pilot Hera Syndulla, and promises the return of the imperial mastermind, Grand Admiral Thrawn. With the return of Thrawn, fans are expecting an appearance from Ezra Bridger, the padawan of Kanan Jarrus who was lost in hyperspace with Thrawn at the cliffhanger end of Star Wars Rebels. The Ahsoka series, The Mandalorian, and series Book of Boba Fett are all closely webbed together as main characters from each make surprise appearances in the other two shows. The many storylines already presented in the Mandalorian season 3 and Book of Boba Fett have fans wondering how the writers will be able to tie all loose strings together. The answer is Dave Filoni will be directing a movie to close these tightly connected stories. We just hope Mandalorian Din Djarin’s adorable sidekick Baby Grogu makes an appearance!

“Ahsoka” teaser trailer

The last movie announced is called The Acolyte and will be set long before the events of the first movie: The Phantom Menace. This movie is described by the key producers of the film as “Frozen meets Kill Bill” (Entertainment). It will be set during the high-republic era and will focus on a time when the Sith and the dark side were at their weakest point. We cannot wait to see this unique and brand-new take on the Star Wars universe!

The new projects including the announcement of Andor season 2, a new show starring Jude Law called the Skeleton Crew, new episodes of Star Wars Visions, a teaser trailer for the Bad Batch’s season 3, and a new video game Jedi Survivor have fans ecstatic! The sooner upcoming release dates for these projects begin with Andor season 2 and the Ahsoka series being set to release in the summer of 2023 and the farthest out date being likely December of 2025 for Rey’s new movie. That being said, Star Wars fans will be well-fed these upcoming years with new projects arriving almost every year. May the force be with you!
