South Puget Sound Community College has ten pathways \u2013 one also exploring the Arts and Communication\u2019s pathway. One of those is a theater pathway, open to any curious people looking into the community of the arts. But one doesn\u2019t have to be a student to participate and support the arts here at South Puget Sound Community College.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Our college has a play every quarter. Last quarter, the play was \u2018Far Away,\u2019 and this Spring Quarter will feature a musical called \u2018Sunday in the Park with George\u2019 by Stephen Sondheim and James Lapine. The musical showcases artists from both past and present, offering a fresh perspective on their struggles for innovation and the generational gap that exists between artists throughout the years. It provides an overview of their unwavering dedication to their craft. In both acts, which span a hundred-year time period from the first to the second act, the generation gap remains a significant factor that influences creativity, extending across both periods. Auditions are often open to the local public theaters, and anyone within the community can sign up to help out with it. The theater class, led by Lauren Love, participates in helping backstage during the actual performance. These make up the extra production crew for this play, also getting credits at the same time for it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This newest musical is open on May 26th to June 4th, at the Kenneth J. Minnaert Center for the Arts Main Stage. The dates are May 26th, 27th, June 2nd and 3rd at 7pm, while on the Sundays of May 28th and June 4th, there\u2019s a matinee at 2:30pm. The plays are free, but there\u2019s a $15 recommended donation to help support the South Puget Sound Community College theater department.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n
