With March comes an abundance of events to attend. It marks the third month of the year, a quarter of the way towards Christmas once again. While snow days in February can seem bleak, they often bring about beautiful sunsets in the Washington area. As the equinox signals the transition from winter to spring, March marks the beginning of brighter evenings that welcome the next six months of supposedly sunny weather.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The second weekend of March marks the time when we \u201cspring\u201d forward, adding an hour to our day. This pushes the darkness of evening back, allowing for more spring-like activities to pop up throughout the month. The time change occurs at 2 AM local time, so be sure to adjust your alarm clocks accordingly!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The spring equinox, which officially starts on March 20th at 2:24 pm, signals the official start of spring. However, it may feel like spring has already arrived as the weather starts to warm up. Washington is known for its snowy December weather, such as the snowstorm in the last few days of December or the sudden snow days in February. This spring, however, offers warmer weather and brilliant sunsets as the sun rises just an hour later. Additionally, March 20th is also International Earth Day, celebrating the changing of the seasons.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

March is also National Women\u2019s History Month, signifying the hard work women have done in recent decades to advocate for their own rights and to encourage the study of the vital role women have played in American history.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Ramadan also falls in March, starting on March 22nd. It is a month-long worshipful event that Muslims worldwide observe, going from one crescent moon to the next. It is devoted to studying the Qur\u2019an, the religious book that Muslims follow. Muslims must abstain from eating, drinking, or engaging in intimate relationships during this month, except for younger children, pregnant individuals, and the elderly.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

By celebrating these events in March, we can make the month even more special. March also marks a turning point at SPSCC, with final\u2019s week coming up in just three weeks. So, be sure to prepare for the finals that may come in your classes!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
