\u201cWe have spirit yes, we do! We have spirit, how about you?\u201d This chant will be the mood of SPSCC students during the upcoming spirit week celebrated on campus. In honor of the long weekend and the upcoming basketball games on the 22nd and 25th<\/sup> of February, the Campus Activities Board has prepared four exciting themes. Each day of the week students and faculty will dress up in colorful clothes in order to show their school spirit.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cAfter having a long weekend, the last thing you want to do is go to school,\u201d said Regina Alcantara, our senator of diversity and equity here at SPSCC who helped to plan the spirit week festivities. When asked how each spirit day was thought of, she responded, \u201cthere\u2019s no class Monday, so the next day you, kind of, just want to roll out of bed\u201d which is the agreeable concept that prompted Tuesday\u2019s theme, Pajama Day. Fuzzy pajama pants, comfortable sweatshirts and t-shirts, blankets, slippers, and much more. Bring your best PJs for next Tuesday\u2019s Pajama Day!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, SPSCC students need not sleep in their pajamas, because Wednesday, the Game Day, promises an exciting and competitive sporting event that will ensure full enthusiasm on campus. Be sure to support our Clippers women\u2019s basketball team as they take on Gray\u2019s Harbor Wednesday, February 22nd at 5:30 pm located at the home court. The only thing as exciting as the games are the free beanies being handed out to students coming to cheer on our teams!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe learned from students that sometimes they don\u2019t have gear, so they don\u2019t know if they should go or not go,\u201d said Regina while elaborating on the stylish beanies being handed out Wednesday. She mentioned that students sometimes don\u2019t have SPSCC gear to wear to games and become hesitant to attend. Students, if you find yourselves in this situation, fear not because Student Life has got your back! Come and get your free SPSCC beanie at Wednesday\u2019s basketball game!\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

When Thursday rolls around, you might be thinking to yourself \u201cam I seeing doubles?\u201d Don\u2019t consult an eye doctor just yet because Twin Day is the only prescription you need! Grab a partner and wear matching clothing to show your spirit! If you don\u2019t have a twin just yet, no worries! Wear a white top and blue jeans and find your identical people around campus!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cI am really excited for Twin Day, I just think it\u2019s going to be really fun looking around campus and seeing what people come up with,\u201d Regina said when asked what day she was most excited for. Regina emphasized that everyone can be easily included, \u201cif there are people who don\u2019t have anyone to match with, they can dress up like a certain type of thing (white shirt and blue jeans) and then see who is matching with them so that you can meet new people on campus, make more friends, and start reviving life on campus.\u201d Twin Day, the 23rd of February, will hopefully leave students with smiles on their faces after seeing all of the fun matching outfits their peer\u2019s wear.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Last but certainly not least, Wear Blue Day happens Friday the 24th. Although they\u2019ll be wearing blue, students certainly won\u2019t be feeling blue during the final spirit day of the week. To build spirit up before another home basketball game Saturday the 25th, students can showcase their school spirit by wearing our school color \u2013 blue. The women\u2019s and men\u2019s teams will be playing at home at\u00a0 1 pm and 3 pm. Furthermore, it will be sophomore night, celebrating the players who are soon graduating from their time here at SPSCC. Next Friday show your Clipper pride by wearing our school colors or any clipper gear you own!\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Spirit week which occurs between the 21st and 24th, is an event meant to boost our community unity and belonging. This year is the launching of the SPSCC Spirit Week as unfortunately, COVID made such an event in previous years difficult to execute.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regina comments on this saying, \u201ccampus was closed during COVID so that\u2019s why we couldn\u2019t do a lot of things like this, and it\u2019s one of the reasons why we want to do more activities, more events, and fun stuff, so people can feel comfortable coming back to campus.\u201d Hopefully, this exciting week will be just a starting point for many more lively events.\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Regina describes how we at SPSCC have a variety of different types of students and that \u201cvery rarely they all mix together in one place.\u201d\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cWe really hope to see during spirit week when we are all wearing the same thing, when we are all cheering for the same team, it can bring us together and make us more united,\u201d she said when asked how she hopes spirit week will affect our community.\u00a0\u00a0<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIt doesn\u2019t matter where you come from, it doesn\u2019t matter if you are a high school student, an international student, a non-traditional student, we are all a part of this community.\u201d Spirit Week promises joyful activities and themes to bring together our community and unite us all as Clippers.
