Ruby Dang is the Senator of Communications in SPSCC’s Student Senate. She is from Vietnam and moved to Washington two years ago.
Ruby was drawn to SPSCC’s lively campus and the fact that it wasn’t too small nor too big and it was fun to interact with others here.Ruby also favored SPSCC’s academic system over what she’s known in Vietnam, as it is more experimental and flexible. Ruby will be graduating with her Associates of Arts in Communication, transferring to San Jose in California, majoring in Public Relations. A specific academic goal of hers is to maintain her 4.0 GPA throughout her education, as well as having a flexible career where she can make connections with people, travel, and be outside.
Ruby takes notes during meetings for the agenda, gathering weekly reports from advisors and Senate members, making posters, flyers, editing videos, and setting up some of the events, as well as helping at the Clipper Cafe and the Food Pantry.
This position has helped her learn how to speak formally, manage projects, and improve her customer service skills. She hopes that the projects they are working on will be beneficial for future students on campus by; increasing student presence on campus as well as in-person classes, and is currently prioritizing hiring for next year’s Senate.
Ruby describes herself as sweet, organized and somewhat to her own detriment, a people pleaser. Ruby is an amazing friend with a kind heart, and is such a fun person to be around and I am glad I got to know her even more through the interview.
Currently applications for Student Senate are closed but there will be openings for positions next year.
