LSS, Tech, & More – Services at SPSCC, Pt. 1
by 0 SPSCC is a large school for a two year college, with a wide variety of programs and resources for students to use while they are enrolled to aid them in succeeding after graduation. Because there are so many resources available, there are many services that most students may not be aware of, and some can be quite surprising. Here are a few of the services you may or may not have known about, in order from some of the least to most surprising. This article is the first article in a campus resource series to help you navigate all of the opportunities that South Puget Sound has to offer!
Learning Support Services
If you’re a returning student at SPSCC, you probably know about this one. Learning Support Services (LSS) offers tutoring services that are free for all students. There are two LSS programs, East and West. Both LSS East and LSS West are in Building 22 on the Olympia campus. LSS East caters primarily to math and sciences, while LSS West focuses on English and writing. There are also E-tutoring services for both math and sciences and English and writing. The tutors are a mix of qualified students and faculty.

Tech Support
Tech Support is pretty much available in any college campus nowadays, especially after Covid-19 made online communications so important and emphasized virtual learning. The Student Support Site has a list of common questions and tutorials, but if you have a more complex problem, you can contact the IT Help Desk for support.

Disability & Access Services
Maybe this one should be expected, since schools and colleges are legally required to provide accommodations for those who need them under the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). Still, it’s not unlikely for students to be unaware of what services Access Services can provide for them, so here’s a quick rundown.

| How to Request Accommodations | To request accommodations, first complete the intake form on the website (which will be linked below) and bring documentation of your disability/ies when first meeting with a coordinator. Afterwards, you will be sent a Letter of Accommodation Request form to fill out (you must fill it out every quarter, as it applies to what classes you will be taking). Meet with your professors to discuss the accommodations if necessary. |
