Six returners help team win first home game

The Clippers beat the Tritons 81-50 in the first home game of the season.

South Puget Sound Community College’s womens basketball team also defeated Ed-monds by one point during overtime during a scrimmage match so the Clippers prepared for a tough game. “We had to be ready for them to come in to our gym confident that they could play with us, and wanting revenge, especially now that games count,” said Dee Dee Horton, womens basketball coach.  Horton said that the main goal for the game was to ensure that Ed-monds could not run offense.“We definitely accomplished that defen-sive goal as shown by forcing 27 turnovers and holding Edmonds to a low field goal shooting percentage of 26 per-cent for the game,” said Horton.Three players scored in the double digits: Kaitlin Nielsen with 16 points, Marissa Magalei with 12 points and six assists, and Larissa Rohr with 11 points. Horton said that she feels this is an indication of what the rest of the season could be like.“It was a great way to start our home opener,” said Horton. Although the team is smaller than last year, there are six returning players. This is unprecedented for SPSCC womens bas-ketball. Three of these players are profiled below.
